Accelerate Vietnam’s clean energy transition with utility-scale solar (LSS) — engineered, built, and optimised by Solarvest Vietnam, a regional leader in renewable energy development and EPC services.

Unlocking the Potential of Large-Scale Solar

What Is Large-Scale Solar (LSS)?

Large-scale solar (LSS), also known as utility-scale solar or solar farms, refers to solar power plants that feed clean electricity directly into Vietnam’s national grid. These projects play a vital role in expanding the nation’s renewable energy capacity.

Vietnam's Solar Capacity

Vietnam has deployed more than 2.5 GWp of large-scale solar capacity and remains one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing clean energy markets. With rising industrial electricity demand and the introduction of DPPA, the development of solar farms is expected to accelerate further.

Environmental Impact

Solar farms significantly reduces carbon emissions, strengthens energy security, and supports Vietnam’s pathway toward Net Zero 2050.

How Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) Works

Diagram of Physical DPPA flow: a renewable energy generation company (RE Genco) supplies power to a consumer under a direct power purchase agreement.
A Physical DPPA enables a Renewable Energy Generation Company (RE Genco) to sell renewable electricity directly to an end consumer (the “offtaker”) through a long-term contract, while using Vietnam’s existing power grid for delivery.

Here’s how the model works for RE Gencos:
  • You develop and own the renewable energy project (for example, a solar PV plant), with Solarvest supporting end-to-end execution, from engineering and construction to technical compliance and commissioning.
  • You then sign a Physical DPPA with the offtaker to agree on commercial terms such as contract duration, contracted energy volume, and pricing structure.
  • Once the plant is operating, electricity is injected into the grid and delivered to the offtaker through the national grid infrastructure, while the DPPA governs how the renewable energy is supplied and accounted for.

In short, a Physical DPPA creates a clear pathway for RE Gencos to monetise renewable generation through contracted corporate demand, supported by Solarvest Vietnam’s EPC and project delivery capabilities.
Diagram of a Virtual DPPA: RE Genco sells via VWEM PPA, the consumer buys via Retail PPA (EVN PC or IP power retailer), and a forward contract links RE Genco and the consumer.
A Virtual DPPA lets a Renewable Energy Generation Company (RE Genco) partner with a corporate buyer (the “offtaker”) to secure renewable offtake and longer-term price certainty through a contractual settlement, even though the buyer continues receiving electricity through their existing retail supply.

How it works for RE Gencos:
  • You develop and own the renewable energy project (for example, a solar PV plant), with Solarvest supporting project delivery, from engineering and construction to commissioning and technical compliance.
  • Your electricity is sold through the applicable market/utility route, while the offtaker keeps purchasing electricity as usual through EVN PC and/or an IP retailer.
  • Separately, you enter into a Virtual DPPA (typically structured as a forward contract) with the offtaker, setting the key commercial terms: contract period, contracted volume, and an agreed contract price..
  • Instead of “sending your electrons” directly to the buyer, the Virtual DPPA uses a price difference settlement referenced to the market, so both parties can align on renewable procurement and cost planning for the contracted volume.

In short, a Virtual DPPA gives RE Gencos a practical way to monetise renewable generation by contracting with corporate demand—while the buyer’s physical electricity supply remains unchanged—supported by Solarvest Vietnam’s EPC and project execution capabilities.

Success Stories: Transforming Energy Landscapes

FAQs

LSS is typically suitable for renewable energy developers / RE Gencos who want to turn land into grid-connected clean power projects, and work with experienced EPC partners to execute the build and grid integration.
Vietnam’s DPPA decree enables renewable energy developers to supply electricity directly to end consumers through a direct agreement. It supports power sales from rooftop solar and other renewable sources either through private connection lines or via delivery across the national grid.
  • Physical DPPA: electricity is contracted as a “direct supply” arrangement while still using the grid for delivery.
  • Virtual DPPA: the offtaker keeps buying electricity normally, while the DPPA acts as a contractual/financial settlement linking the offtaker to renewable generation.
BESS can help improve grid stability, make power supply more controllable, and optimise overall solar farm performance—especially when grid requirements and operating conditions need more flexibility.
Depending on the commercial structure, a project can be tied to a single corporate offtaker or split across multiple offtakers (typically with more complexity in contracting and settlement).
Solarvest emphasises high-efficiency, Tier-1 solar modules designed to maximise energy yield, durability, and system reliability—key for long-term asset performance.
